THE three captains for 2009 at Romanby Golf and Country Club near Northallerton in North Yorkshire have got the new season off to a great start with a drive in event and tournament.
Stewart Martin (club captain), Pamela Moffat (ladies captain) and Lauren Collinson (junior captain) all took part in the drive-in, which was followed by a Texas Scramble competition.
Stewart said: "It's a great honour and privilege to captain such a great and thriving club as Romanby. I aim to fit in as much as I can this year and meet as many people along the way. I'm really looking forward to it."
Pamela added: "Everyone had a fantastic day, the course played and looked superb and the weather was just beautiful."
The winners of the tournament were the team of Graham Walker, Ian James, Kevin Bradley and Margaret Lowther with a return of 67 gross for a 58.7 nett score.
The three captains, accompanied by John Archer, had to be content with the runners up spot with their 66 gross and 59.3 nett effort.
But all three captains hit fantastic drives to get the ball rolling with fellow members having to guess the distances their balls travelled. Money raised went to the captain's charity, which is the Great North Air Ambulance.
The winners of guess the distance were:
Captain's Drive: 216 Yards - John Morton; Lady Captain's Drive:124 Yards - Rosemary Archer; Junior Captain's Drive: 203 Yards - John Thompson.
