JOHN Harrison goes into the third and last round of his European Senior Tour debut today tied for second place four shots behind Scottish leader Bill Longmuir.
Matfen Hall’s director of coaching scored a six-under 67 in the Handa Senior Masters yesterday following a first round 70.
He signed for an eagle, six birdies and two bogeys at Stapleford Park in Leicestershire to share second spot on 137 with Thailand’s Boionchu Ruangkit, winner of the last three Senior Tour events.
The highlight of Harrison’s round was an eagle at the 509-yard par five 11th, where, from 220 yards out, he drilled a four iron to 20 feet and sank the putt.
Earlier, he landed a hat-trick or birdies at holes two, three and four – missing a five-foot eagle putt at two and pitching in from 30 yards at three.
Harrison, who whittled two shots off his overnight gap behind Longmuir, said: “If I get another fast start, then you never know.”
