Durham City 4 Garforth Town 5

DICKIE Ord says Durham City expect FA censure after their 5-4 defeat against Garforth Town ended in a brawl.

Durham were incensed by the behaviour of Garforth’s players and officials after the visitors scored twice in the final two minutes to snatch victory at New Ferens Park.

That led to confrontations on the pitch and between the rival benches, and the referee had to step in and restore order before the game could be completed. But the arguments continued in the tunnel after the full-time whistle went.

It was a sad end to an incredible game, which saw two hat-tricks and Durham come from behind three times to lead, only to throw it away right at the death.

A mistake from Lewis Graham allowed Rob Pacey to head Garforth in front in the 20th minute, But Andrew Stephenson levelled eight minutes later, applying the finish to a David Dowson cross.

Garforth were back in front a minute later through David Brown after Graham had parried an initial shot, however Dowson scored a brilliant goal to make it 2-2 just a minute after the restart.

Brown latched on to another loose ball to put Town ahead for a third time on 38 minutes only for Dowson to restore parity five minutes into the second period.

And Dowson completed his hat-trick in the 73rd minute to put City ahead for the first time in the match. Brown hit his third goal of the game two minutes from time to level at 4-4 and then Chris Walton capitalised on slack defending to grab the winner in injury-time.

Ord said: “What made it worse was that all five were as a result of individual mistakes - it was very frustrating.”
