Ross Wilkinson backs Durham City to recover

SKIPPER Ross Wilkinson believes Durham City are capable of recapturing the form that earned them maximum points in October.

City enjoyed a perfect record of six wins out of six in October, pushing Dickie Ord’s side up to third place in the Evo-Stik First Division North. But defeats in both the Durham Challenge Cup and the FA Trophy at the beginning of November knocked City out of their stride, and they have won only one of their five league games since.

However Wilkinson says the Citizens are capable of putting together another winning streak and climbing the table once more, starting at Farsley Celtic tonight.

“We had such a good October when it seemed everything was going right for us, but the two cup games rocked us a bit,” said Wilkinson. “We’ve struggled to find some form since, but I know we are capable of going on another winning run like we had a couple of months ago.

“Saturday’s defeat against Witton saw us drop into the bottom half of the table but the points totals are such that two or three wins will lift us right back up there again.

“First, though, we need to pick ourselves up after the weekend and concentrate on beating Farsley.

“We beat them in a narrow game early in the season and then they knocked us out of the League Cup at their place in September, so we know they are a good side.”

Tonight’s game is the first of four away games in December, before City round off 2011 at home to Clitheroe on New Year’s Eve.

Wilkinson said: “We’ve got a tough Christmas period with the Farsley game followed by trips to Fylde, Woodley and Harrogate Railway. We need to find some consistent form, but if we can get on another good run then we could go into 2012 in a great position.”

Durham go into the game in 12th place, while Farsley are fifth after winning five of their last six. City will have defender Gary Brown available again after he sat out the weekend game through suspension.
