Dicky Ord urges Durham City to build on Ossett Town triumph

DICKY ORD has called on his Durham City players to use Saturday’s win at Ossett Town as a launchpad to further success.

The Citizens bounced back from successive defeats to win 1-0 at the west Yorkshire club.

They entertain Farsley tonight, with spirits high and Andrew Stephenson back from suspension. And joint-manager Ord said: “We got a great response from the lads on Saturday after the previous two results, so now we have to build on that.

“The lads have shown great spirit over the last couple of weeks and the win at Ossett should have given them the lift they need.

“They’re mostly young lads so they don’t tend to get too down from one game to the next when results don’t go their way.

“Confidence comes naturally enough to them, but when they get a good result, like Saturday’s, it’s a further boost and a big help.

“Now they need to take that into this week, when we’ve got two home games.

“It would be nice to use Saturday as a platform to go on a bit of a run and start picking up a few points.

“We’ve still got a few important players missing but a few more are gradually coming back, so we should get stronger and stronger over the next few weeks.

“Hopefully that will allow us to put some consistency together, because that’s what we’re lacking at the moment.

“Our results are a bit up and down, because you never know what you’re going to get with the lads.

“Not many would have backed us to go to Ossett Town and get a result, let alone a win.

“But that shows what the lads are capable of. On their day they’re a match for anybody. I think people just think that because they’re young lads they’re naive and inexperienced. But they’ve been playing at this level for a couple of years now and they’re learning, and getting better, all the time.

“If they can just cut out the mistakes and concentrate for 90 minutes they can really start to climb the table.

“But it won’t be easy, Farsley are a good team and play nice stuff, a bit like us.”
