Ross County 5, Berwick Rangers 1

BERWICK Rangers’ dismal record in cup competitions this season continued in the Highlands as they made their exit from the Scottish Cup at the first hurdle, with First Division Ross County completing a nap hand at Victoria Park in Dingwall.

Borderers boss Jimmy Crease – although disappointed with the result – stressed: “It has to be borne in mind that we were up against a good side two leagues above us and challenging for a place in the SPL.

“The important thing now is the players wipe the memory of this one from their minds immediately and concentrate on the league.”

The Borderers squandered a great chance to take the lead just before the half-hour mark when Ian Little was hauled down in the box by Scott Boyd, but Damon Gray saw his spot-kick well saved by goalkeeper Michael McGovern.

It proved costly, because County struck a killer blow with three goals in seven minutes just before the break.

Paul Di Giacoma put the homesters in front in 38 minutes when he hooked home a cross from Richard Brittain, and two minutes later he was on target again heading home from Scott Morrison before Paul Lawson saw a 20-yard effort find the net with the aid of an upright on 43 minutes.
