Hucknall Town 7, Durham City 1

DURHAM City conceded seven goals for the sixth time this season, a 7-1 defeat at Hucknall Town that brought up a century of goals conceded.

A season to end all seasons sees a beleaguered Durham still looking for their first point after 19 games, their six goalkeepers used having picked the ball out of net 102 times – and that doesn’t include cup-ties.

There is light at the end of the tunnel, however, with the club announcing its intention to stay in the UniBond League rather than return to the local Northern League.

But the hard yards are having to be done with more pain to come before manager Lee Collings can assemble a squad for next season.

“It is obviously not great to have shipped over 100 goals with the season at the halfway stage but this was never a 7-1 game,” he said.

“We hadn’t been in a lot of trouble in the opening half hour and had numerous chances in the game to score, but we once again conceded just before the interval.

“Hucknall then scored straight after the restart and, as the heads went down, we conceded two more before ten minutes was on the clock and it was game over.”

Jay Smedley opened the scoring on 32 minutes and then added a second before half-time.

Anton Bonnick scored a brace in the second half with Durham’s consolation coming from 16-year-old Conor Winters.
