Wearside League

IT’S been a busy week on the transfer front with several clubs having strengthened their squads.

Jarrow manager Dave Bell has brought in Gary Taylor, who was playing in local Sunday football, and Lee O’Neill from Hebburn Town.

The pair are set to make their debuts against Hartlepool who name Shaun Young, Joe Docherty and Andrew Ross but Shaun Ross has joined West Auckland Town.

Silksworth have signed Dareen George, who was captain when Chris Lindstedt was manager of Ryhope CW last season.

Lindstedt recently took over at Silksworth and at New Marske this afternoon the Wearsiders are further boosted by the return of Craig Peel, John Smith, Ross Taylor, David Baker, Jordan Crake and Andy Colledge.

Houghton Town have snapped up defenders Michael Curtis and Adam Summerson from Silksworth and they go straight into the squad to visit full-strength Boldon CA. Houghton, though, are further strengthened with the inclusion of Steve Anderson, Gavin Dorward and Kevin Gordon.

Woolington face a difficult challenge at second top Scarborough Town when new signing Gavin McMahon will play his first game. A blow for the Seasiders is that the leading scorer Robbie Hawkes could miss most of the season but goalkeeper Rob Clarke and Mattie Brown are set to play today.

Former player David Paul has returned to Easington Colliery after a season’s absence.

Tom Orchard is doubtful at Teeside Athletic, another club who have increased their numbers with the signing of Danny Mohan. Dale Mendum, Greg Booth and Lewis Wood are pencilled into the squad.

Ashbrooke Belford House miss Ryan Steel but David Baxter, Mark Lawton and Chris Charlton are named for the visit of Annfield Plain.

Coxhoe Athletic have Chris Withers and Adam McDonald in their line-up at Guisborough Town HC who have been the busiest club signing players.

They have brought in Anthony Bizwas, Liam Belford and Alex Brown as they attempt to move clear of the bottom of the table.
