THE Wearside League is now devoid of interest in the Durham Challenge Cup following Boldon CA’s dismissal.
The South Tynesiders were the last hope but after battling back from a three-goal deficit, two stoppage-time goals earned Crook Town a home tie with Consett in the quarter-finals.
Gavin Barton (2) and Adam Nichols had the visitors in control but when Kris Robinson and Michael Wright struck, an exciting final five minutes ensued.
Boldon pressed in search of taking the tie into extra time but left the way open for Darren Kokes and Tom Berj to cement a 5-2 victory.
There was an amazing Wearside League Cup tie between Easington Colliery and Silksworth who led until the 71st minute with a brace of goals from Anthony Rogerson. The Wearsiders had Cameron Marshall sent off in the 25th minute but looked like holding on until Tom Orchard and Robert Huntley struck.
In the 87th minute Jordan Craike was the second Silksworth player red-carded and Easington, playing against nine men, romped home 6-2 with by Huntley (2) Peter Crawford and Gary Tyzack (og).
Amazingly, Silksworth ended with eight men, Ross Morton was also sent off.
The other tie was less eventful, Ryhope CW maintaining their double challenge beating Wolviston, Martin Metcalfe, Dan Smith and John Butler netting after Glen Walker gave the Teessiders the lead.
Ashbrooke Belford House ended Coxhoe Athletic’s mini-revival. Jake Laverick opening the scoring for Coxhoe, who saw keeper Tom Orton sent off in the 23rd minute for fouling Peter Benson, who equalised from the penalty spot.
Peter Bulmer restored Coxhoe’s leaf but after Mark Green levelled, Paul Robinson struck Belford House’s winner five minutes from time.
Jarrow lost 5-1 at New Marske despite leading via Richard Stubbs. Shaun Mackin (3) and Mark Dawson (2) replied.
Roy Gordon and Colin Snailham earned Annfield Plain a point at Houghton Town, who twice led through Billy Harrison and Simon Williamson.
