Salisbury City 0, Gateshead 1

GATESHEAD warmed up for Saturday’s FA Cup clash at home to Brentford with a single-goal success at Salisbury City.

On-loan Scunthorpe United wide man Peter Winn grabbed the all-important goal five minutes from time to give the improving Tynesiders their third win in four games.

It was also a third clean sheet during that period and manager Ian Bogie believes his side have a bit of momentum going into the Brentford game.

“The FA Cup clash against Brentford is a massive one for the club and back-to-back wins over Southport and Salisbury means we will go into the tie with confidence,” said Bogie.

“It was a great result at Salisbury. We started poorly and were second best for the opening 25 minutes but we then grew into the game.

“We were much better in the second half. Our football was good, we created some good openings and then scored the goal at a crucial time.

“Salisbury had won five out of six but we defended well, with James Curtis again immense, and we worked hard as a team to gain three valuable points.”

On-loan striker Daryl Clare had his best game in a Gateshead shirt and there were notable performances across the pitch including young keeper Paul Farman who made a superb save in the first half.
