DURHAM City lost again, but consider the perspective.
Already depleted by that start-of-season walkout by the majority of their squad, the Esh Group Stadium outfit now consists mainly of college kids.
And some of them were only able to play against Bradford Park Avenue because a club director waited until they finished work at the Soccerdome adjoining the ground, and drove them to the Horsfall Stadium, arriving just minutes before kick-off.
By contrast, Bradford are backed to the tune of £20,000 a month by chairman Dr John Dean, and could afford to start one-time £1m former Middlesbrough striker Andy Campbell on the substitutes’ bench.
So little wonder Durham lost. They trailed as early as the fifth minute when Rufus Ayre put through his own goal before two goals in a minute from Simon Baldry and Aiden Savory effectively killed off all hope.
City did strike back through Keiron Gohery but capitulated as they tired through the final stages, Savory adding another before Robbie O’Brien and Chris Hall, with a brace, completed the rout.
