Wearside League

IT looks as if the championship will go to either Newton Aycliffe or New Marske.

Aycliffe are in pole position following victory at East Durham United but needed a disputed penalty to break the deadlock. With only 12 minutes remaining, Mark Wood scored from the spot and five minutes later Roy Allen was also on target.

New Marske are just a point behind Aycliffe and Alex Anderson, Michael Mackin and Andrew Herbert kept the Seasiders in contention with victory over Silksworth Community, for whom Chris Wilson and Michael Curtis replied.

Third-top Teesside Athletic lost ground when an 88th-minute penalty miss cost them dearly at Annfield Plain for whom Alan Robertson (pen) cancelled out Daniel Drazdauskas’ first-half goal. Easington Colliery stay fourth but they too failed to win, goalless at Windscale.

Ashbrooke Belford House conceded first-half goals to Carl Winspear (2) and Terry Hill and managed only one in reply by Michael Connor at Hartlepool.

Jarrow lost to Kirkbymoorside, for whom Paul Round scored the only goal. Coxhoe Athletic beat Guisborough Town HC with an early goal by Kristian Holliday and a last-minute strike from Adrian Pritchard.

Cleator Moor Celtic romped into a two-goal lead against Wolviston inside five minutes courtesy of Darren Johnson (2).

By the 15th minute Wolviston were level thanks to Glen Smith and Carl Barrie and the sides went in 2-2 at the interval. But in the second half, Celtic hit Wolviston for six to win 8-2. Johnson took his total to four with Craig Scott, Andrew Thomas (og), Craig Corkhill and Gary George also finding the net.
