Northern Alliance League

ONLY six points separate the bottom five clubs, but with only four and three games to go respectively, Murton and Peterlee Town remain in the gravest danger, both losing again on Saturday.

Murton had Karl Jarvis putting them in front at home to Heddon, but late replies from John Pearson and Joe Kerry earned their visitors a 2-1 win.

The Newtowners also lost 2-1 at Shankhouse, who had Craig Johnson and Darren Naylor on target before Jonathan Monaghan pulled a goal back.

Peterlee need to pick up points from their last home game against Alnwick and their visits to fellow-strugglers Ashington Colliers and Newcastle University.

The University and Cramlington Town, third bottom, both picked up vital points. The Students ended a run of four home defeats by beating Carlisle City 2-1.

City’s Jamie Heath cancelled out Martin Hill’s opener for the Students, but Hill’s second goal settled the issue.

Third bottom Cramlington Town moved up a notch after a 1-1 draw with visitors Heaton Stannington. After taking a second-minute lead through Paul Joisce, the Town were unlucky to concede an equaliser to Heaton’s Andrew Weeks.

In the title race, Harraby Catholic Club were beaten 5-0 by Seaton Delaval at Wheatridge Park. Connal Reed claimed four of the goals, Steve Anderson the other.

In pole position, Walker Central are four points clear of Gillford Park with a game in hand, and kept their unbeaten home record by beating Blyth Town 3-0.

Paul Gardiner, John Campbell and Gary McCartney scored Central’s goals.

Gillford Park maintained their own unbeaten home record, beating Ashington Colliers 3-0, Tyran Taylor, Steve Skinner and Alistair Lang on target.

Wark look capable of maintaining their Premier Division status and won 3-2 at home to Alnwick Town.

Three days after their eight-goal defeat by Walker Central, the Wark lads proved their resiliency with goals by Marc Nixon (2) and Mark Elliott. Richard Brown and Ben Keenan replied for Alnwick.
