Wearside League

ANNFIELD Plain dented the championship hopes of Coxhoe Athletic when they won at Derwent Park.

The South Durham side went into the game having suffered one defeat in 16 but were outplayed by their
hosts.

Regular marksman Paul Henderson opened the scoring after 20 minutes and Barry Lindoe made it two before the interval.

Henderson scored his second goal 20 minutes from time and worse was to follow for second-top Coxhoe, who had two players sent off in the final stages.

Leaders Newton Aycliffe also suffered defeat but still enjoy a seven-point advantage over Coxhoe who have a game in hand.

Aycliffe visited reigning champions New Marske, who are fourth top after winning the fixture by the odd goal in three. Alex Anderson pounced on a rebound to fire his team in front and midway through the second period he struck for a second time.

Within five minutes former Chester-le-Street player Elliott Gardner threw Aycliffe a lifeline but the Seasiders held on for a crucial win.

Boldon CA just edged neighbours Jarrow with a last-minute winner from Michael Meek.

Chris Robinson had headed them in front but a draw looked on the cards following Chris McDonald’s equaliser.

There was another close finish at Wolviston , where Easington Colliery lost ground in the championship race. David Campbell and Glen Smith
gave the Teessiders a two-goal cushion but, when Paul Moss replied, it was all to play for in the last five minutes.
