The Journal sportswriter Stuart Rayner rates the rumours from today’s papers.

1) The Mirror claims Aston Villa are looking to lure Michael Owen to Villa Park when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Michael Owen seems certain to be leaving Tyneside when his contract expires in the summer and Newcastle fans will frankly not give a monkey’s where to. But with Martin O’Neill unusually coy on the Owen link, Villa looks a distinct possibility.
