ANNFIELD Plain ended a long losing sequence with an encouraging performance against seventh-top Hartlepool at Derwent Park.
Second-half goals from James Davis and Jordan Fraser, who struck with a stunning 30-yard volley, earned them three crucial points as they battle against having to apply for re-election.
At one stage Gateshead Leam Rangers were also too near the bottom for comfort, but they are now mid-table after defeating Wolviston by the only goal – scored in the third minute by Liam Charlton.

The Wearsiders romped into a two goals lead courtesy of Stephen Bogie and Brett Wilson.
However, before the interval Willington were ahead with strikes from Daniel Lee, Paul Bayles and Adam Sakr. The second period was goalless.
Sunderland West End defeated Boldon CA thanks to Jamie Fryett, Adam McQuillan and David Keighley and Peterlee Town lost by a similar margin to Redcar Athletic, whose marksmen were Dane Breckon, Andrew Bell and Richie Playfor.
