Non-league round-up

NORTH Shields won by the odd goal in five against Hebburn in a thrilling Ernest Armstrong Memorial Cup Second Round tie last night.

The Robins edged ahead through Paul Watson but the home side levelled when Dean Walker volleyed in after a run by Callum Charlton.

Two minutes into the second half Shields restored the lead when a superb left-wing cross by Andrew Wright found Dean Holmes, who made no mistake, but Hebburn levelled a second time in the 73rd minute through Stephen Foster.

However, Keith Douglas fired Shields into the next round, lashing the ball home from 10 yards after a superb turn inside the area.

Esh Winning booked a semi-final place in the Durham Challenge Cup after a goal in each half secured a 2-0 win over Hartlepool.

The home side went ahead in the 20th minute with a fantastic 25-yard strike from Craig Mickle and, five minutes from full time, Stuart Thompson added a second after a shot by Craig Coates had been parried by Hartlepool goalkeeper Mark Bell.
