Jordan Cook is targeting a long-term stay at Carlisle United

Jordan Cook of Sunderland looks to get past Lanre Oyebanjo and Michael Potts of York City

JORDAN Cook is not due to make his Carlisle United debut until Saturday, but the striker has already set his sights on staying longer.

The 21-year-old joined on a month’s loan from Sunderland on Monday. His first match could be at home to Walsall, where he played eight games last term.

Cook, though, is hungry for more.

“The initial deal is only for a month, but if things go well and I’m playing enough games, I can’t see why it wouldn’t be extended,” he told the Cumbrians’ official website.

“My first aim, though, is to do as well as I can when I get my chance and help the team get into the play-off positions and stay there.”

Midfielder Liam Noble made his loan from the Stadium of Light to Brunton Park permanent days earlier, and persuaded Cook to follow him.

“When Liam came back to Sunderland to train a few weeks ago I mentioned to him that Carlisle were interested and he told me it would be a great move,” Cook recalled.

“He said the team are full of confidence and playing good football on a fantastic playing surface, and that just made me even keener to come.”

Managing director John Nixon has praised Milton Keynes Dons’ “extremely generous offer” after Saturday’s postponement.

Carlisle’s League One game at Stadium MK was called off at 1.45pm because of a frozen pitch.

Fans have been offered a refund on tickets, regardless of whether they can make the new date, which is yet to be confirmed.

MK will pay for two coaches to travel from Cumbria for the new date, and will give their opponents free tickets. Supporters will be offered two each. Home fans will also get an additional free ticket for a friend to attend.

“I think it goes without saying this is an extremely generous offer from MK Dons,” commented Nixon.

“We’ve certainly never seen anything like it before. It goes above and beyond what we expected and I’m sure I speak for everyone when I say that we really appreciate it.

“We are now in the process of sorting out a new fixture date and full details of how to get the refund and the new match tickets will be released in due course.”
