Annan Athletic 2 Berwick Rangers 2

BERWICK came back from the dead for the second time in three games as they fought back to snatch a draw against Annan Athletic at Galabank.

The Borderers struck twice in the final l3 minutes at exactly the same times as they had against Alloa to also earn a point the previous Saturday.

The draw was enough, however, to lift the hosts to the top of the Scottish Third Division, while Rangers slip back into sixth spot with Queens Park moving above them following their victory over bottom-of-the-table East Stirling.

“After the defeat at Peterhead in midweek it was important to get back on track and this was a good enough result,” said acting manager Ian Little.

“I was a bit disappointed to go in at the break two down, but it was another tremendous fightback. We had by far the better of the second half and, had it not been for several good saves by their keeper, we might easily have come away with all three points.”

Little, who has had three wins, two draws and two defeats during his seven weeks in charge is hoping to hear this week if he has got the job on a permanent basis.

Annan took the lead on l8 minutes when Peter Watson headed home a delivery from David Cox and they doubled the tally four minutes before the break courtesy of Ian Harty.

But the visitors hit back after the break, reducing the arrears in when a Lee Currie free kick was deflected into his own net by Scott Gibson.

And five minutes later substitute Darren Gribben fired home the leveller after showing neat footwork on the edge of the box.

Then, in a hectic final five minutes, both teams had a player sent off.

Rangers’ Steven Notman was shown a second yellow for a foul, after Annan’s Michael McGowan received a straight red for dissent.
