Hartlepool United 0 Colchester United 1

MICKY Barron took charge of Hartlepool for the second time on Saturday and promised a positive approach.

Following a full week on the training ground, the caretaker manager was confident of a much-needed success.

In the end, it was the same script as before. Pool lost at home again, failed to score, and didn’t play as well as they should have.

They were decent in patches, Barron admitted as much, but lacked enough drive to break down Colchester and it’s now one goal – a penalty – in almost twelve and a half hours of football in front of their own fans. Seven of the current streak of eight Victoria Park losses came under Mick Wadsworth. He lost his job because of it, and whoever is the next permanent boss will have to resolve the issue instantly.

Barron could be that man, and as long as he is in control he retains a positive outlook.

“We tried an inspirational video on Friday where we showed them goals and some fun bits in amongst it, just to give them a lift – but obviously that didn’t work,’’ he said.

“So all we can do is press ahead and train hard and get them to do what we want in training.”

In the first half, James Poole lobbed wide, but they didn’t create a lot.

The Us, managed by ex-Carlisle chief John Ward, made more chances. Scott Flinders denied Ian Henderson and the attacker also missed two other openings.

But when Anthony Wordsworth crept in behind the defence to have a go, he scored at the second attempt after Flinders saved.
