INDIVIDUAL errors were to blame as Carlisle United crashed to a heavy defeat at Charlton Athletic, but manager Greg Abbott refused to point the finger as he tried to explain why his side's four-game unbeaten run had come to a halt.
“I’m not going to come out and talk about individual errors after a performance like this,” he said. “We’ve said before, we win together and we lose together. We have talked about what we felt went wrong in the dressing room, and the players don’t need me to tell them they’ve made a mistake.”
“It was one of those games where if it could go wrong, it did go wrong,” he added. “Hopefully all of the things which could happen have come in one game, and we’ll be done with them all.”
The afternoon started badly for the Cumbrians with an early goal for big French striker Yann Kermorgant, and the pain was doubled when an under-hit Tavernier back pass left Collin stranded. The lively Bradley Wright-Phillips nipped in to do the rest.
“We went into the game feeling really confident, but we let ourselves down by conceding some sloppy goals,” midfielder Tom Taiwo said. “It’s a difficult place to come, but it’s made even harder if you gift them the lead.”
