BERMUDA international striker Nahki Wells has agreed a short-term deal with Carlisle United that will keep him at Brunton Park until the end of the current season.
Former Dandy Town front man Wells, 19, has returned to his home town in the interim period but will come back to Cumbria to sign his contract on New Year’s Day.
The highly-rated youngster teamed up with the International Academic & Soccer Academy (IASA) here in England earlier this year and has already attracted interest from npower Championship sides Hull City and Roy Keane’s Ipswich Town.
He has had two short trial spells with the Cumbrians over the course of the last two months and has done enough to convince Brunton Park manager Greg Abbott that he is worth a longer look.
Abbott said: “I am very good friends with Mark Ellis, who works at IASA as a coach, and it was him who alerted me that there was a player that we might want to take a look at.
“He has spent a bit of time with us and he has done well, but with the wintry weather and his commitments with his studies we haven’t quite been able to see him as much as we would have liked.
“Having said that, he has shown us an excellent attitude and he has demonstarted that he has a bit of quality.
“So we have decided to bring him back so that we can take a much longer look at him.”
On what will be expected from the player over the next few months, he added: “The key is that people don’t expect too much, too early.
“He definitely has quality, but the idea is that we will get him here and see whether he can progress to become better than what we already have.
“The challenge for him now is to come here, work with us full time and show us what he can really do.
“We think he has real potential, so we’ll work with him from January onwards and we can take it from there.”
