Carlisle United 2, Leeds United 3

It took 14 penalties, but Collin’s save from the last of them booked Carlisle’s fifth Football Trophy final in 15 years.

“I’m struggling a bit at the minute because it’s been a tough night but I wouldn’t swap it for watching Coronation Street,” manager Greg Abbott joked. “It’s the proudest moment of my career. I didn’t get close to the Mecca of football as a player.”

Carlisle’s elation was overshadowed by a post-match pitch invasion in which Leeds boss Simon Grayson claimed three of his players had been punched. There were also allegations of a laser being shined at the visiting penalty-takers.

“The stewards have done nothing about it which is wrong,” he said. “Anything could have happened and I will be taking this further.

“I hope Carlisle go there and win it because we want to go out to the winners.”
