Darlington 0, Morecambe 4

Darlington were tentative for much of the half yet still created the better openings, Ian Miller setting up Simon Thomas to send in a shot which was deflected for a corner with Roche wrong-footed.

However, on 40 minutes Michael Twiss burst past young Darlington full-back Barnes to send in a deep cross which was met by Garry Hunter with a volley which flew back across goal and narrowly wide. Wilson brought a good save out of Liversedge early in the second half, before the visitors’ quickfire double stunned the home fans fowllowed by two late goals.

Darlington boss Steve Staunton said: “The last 40 minutes were unnacceptable. Up until then there was nothing between the sides.”
