There's still more to come from Pool

NINTH in League One and the good thing for Hartlepool United is that both manager and Saturday's match-winner know there is a lot more to come.

Many would describe Pool as over and not under-achieving, but both Chris Turner and Adam Boyd feel the latter is the case.

Saturday’s single-goal win over Leyton Orient, thanks to an 82nd-minute poachers’ goal from Boyd against the club where he played last season, made it five games without loss for Turner’s side.

There’s tough back-to-back games to come against Huddersfield and Southampton, but with such a solid platform to build on, there’s no reason why Pool can’t enjoy a comfortable season.

Victory over Orient was only their third at home this season and Boyd knows where his side could be if it wasn’t for so many dropped points in front of their own fans.

“We are in a good position, yet with our home form we are under-achieving,” said Boyd after scoring his sixth goal of the season. “Wycombe, Brentford, Bristol Rovers – take a few more points from those and we are sixth.

“We have done all right so far and we are a bit of a dark horse. Finishing just above relegation last season meant no one fancied us, the only pressure comes from ourselves and our fans.

“I think even from the board’s side, they will be happy to improve and the same with the manager. We want to push on and keep going.

“Look at this game, we could have won 3-0 and they couldn’t have grumbled.

“The home games I’ve already mentioned that we could have won, hopefully someone is in for a pasting soon.”
