Cumbrians get their man

Abbott feels that Clayton will benefit from joining a club seemingly on the up – with Carlisle buoyed by beating Charlton 3-1 on Saturday.
“It’s a very good time for a young player to be joining us. Sometimes when things aren’t going that well it can be difficult for younger lads coming in, but he’s joining us at a good time,” he said. “We can integrate him, no problems.
“He’s coming into a side that is in a better shape than it was two weeks ago, no doubt about that.”
Back-to-back victories have helped lift Carlisle out of the League One drop zone, as well as easing the pressure on Abbott and lifting the mood of a club buffeted by boardroom turbulence over the past seven days.
“As much as I have said that I think we’re making progress and doing all the right things, I know that this is a results-based business,” Abbott admitted.
“Although I’ve maintained all along that things are progressing I did wonder what was coming around the corner after the Yeovil game. But it’s nice now to see some results from all of the hard work that we’ve put in on the training pitch.”
