Todd: There is no quick Quakers fix

COLIN Todd has warned Darlington chairman Raj Singh that sacking him will not bring about a quick fix.

Todd, who has revealed to The Journal that Singh had wanted to wield the axe after the defeat at Bournemouth, feels that his successor will also struggle to turn around the fortunes of League Two’s bottom side – unless there is a “pot of gold” that he was never privy to.

Todd left his post on Saturday after ten-man Darlington won their second point of the season at Grimsby but is at pains to point out he did not resign. He accepts results had not been good enough but feels 70% of the fans were on his side.

The former Middlesbrough boss also admitted that Dean Windass struggled to adapt to his new role as player-coach. The veteran striker, who left the Quakers along with Todd, was in his first coaching role. “I am disappointed to have left the club and I think it’s important to say that I did not resign. I would never walk away from a challenge like that and I didn’t on this occasion,” he told The Journal.

“I feel that I have handled myself honourably through the whole thing. I think the chairman had wanted me to go after the Bournemouth game but we agreed I would have another two games and we needed to win both.
