Carlisle rocked as Cleveland Taylor is listed

“I’ve explained on numerous occasions the positive effect that he has in the dressing room, because he has an infectious enthusiasm for the game and he is a terrific character, as well as being a very good footballer.

“I understand the reasons he has for making the request, but I do feel that it should be up to Cleveland as to when he chooses to discuss it, if he chooses to do so at all.

“When he is good and ready, I would hope that he would feel that he is in a position to explain the reasons behind his decision, but he would prefer it to remain private at the moment.

“At his request, we have all agreed not to discuss his reasons any further, and I think it’s only right and proper for us to respect that.”

Managing director John Nixon confirmed that the club had held talks with Taylor for several weeks to try and persuade him to change his mind.

“We have held discussions with Cleveland Taylor over the course of the past few weeks, but we have reluctantly agreed to his request this morning.”
