BEDLINGTON Terriers moved off the bottom of the Skilltrainingltd Northern League First Division and denied Ashington pole position when they won yesterday’s derby at Welfare Park.

David Tremble unfortunately put through his own goal and Scott Bell made it two before the Colliers hit back through Mark Pattie. Terriers increased the tempo and late in the game Lee Ludlaw assured them of their first win in four attempts.

Chester-le-Street, who have played only twice, are at the basement after losing at Tow Law Town despite leading with strikes from Robbie Draper and Josh Home-Jackson.

Andy Johnson reduced the arrears before two goals in the last 18 minutes by Ben Thompson and Shaun Sagers, sealed the Cestrians’ fate.

South Shields led courtesy of Mark Johnson and Mark Brocklehurst at Seaham Red Star but were then hit with a two-goal blitz from Robbie Bird and Ross Gardner.

Bishop Auckland are still winless following four attempts after losing the derby to Spennymoor Town, whose marksmen were Carl Richard and Jamie Clarke.

In Division Two, Horden CW thumped Sunderland RCA, who played the last hour with 10 men following the dismissal of Paul Taylor. Ian Clark, Stephen Thomas, Darren Atkinson, Craig Hubbard and Michael Ford swept the Colliers to an emphatic 5-0 victory.

Hebburn Town led by two goals at Jarrow Roofing with just a couple of minutes remaining but the game ended 3-3. Chris Archer (2) and Phil Graham netted for Roofing. Shaun Carroll (2) and Michael Armstrong replying.

Washington have yet to find their feet following relegation and suffered a third consecutive defeat as Birtley Town won thanks to Ian Davison and Robert Houghton after Casslis-Stephenson had opened for the Newtowners.

Esh Winning won for the fourth time in five outings with an only goal by Craig Coates at Brandon United, while Gary Critchlow’s strike was sufficient for Team Northumbria to win at home to North Shields.

Crook Town crashed 5-1 at home to leaders Whitehaven and Norton and Stockton moved into second place after beating Darlington RA with strikes from Gary Mitchell and Marcus Laing.
