Non-league round-up

JARROW last night beat Annfield Plain 2-0 to finish runners-up to New Marske in the Wearside League. Craig Armstrong and Dean Patton struck in the first half and the result enabled Jarrow to leapfrog Whitehaven, who miss out on promotion to the Arngrove Northern League.

Although Whitehaven met the ANL’s ground criteria they needed to finish in the top two. Whitehaven were disappointed but bottom club Brandon United celebrated when they escaped relegation from the ANL Division Two as a result.

New Marske claimed a Wearside League double with a 3-1 victory in the league cup final at Wolviston who led through Liam McPhillips. Shaun Mackin levelled with only a minute left and in extra time New Marske struck again through Martin Say and Mackin. The Seasiders have also won the Monkwearmouth Charity Cup.

And Northern Alliance Premier Division champions Walker Central completed a notable double last night, beating First Division opponents Wallington 3-1 in the final of the Longhorn Hardware League Cup. Paul Wakenshaw, John Campbell and Dave Thompson netted for the winners.

Harraby Catholic Club finish second behind Walker, just pipping Gillford Park who only drew 1-1 at Carlisle City. Gillford were gifted an own goal opener by Craig Wood straight after the break but City’s Paul Gardiner levelled after 70 minutes.

Wark claimed the First Division title as rivals Murton lost 4-0 at Stocksfield and they beat visitors Rutherford 4-1.
