Non-league round-up

JARROW will probably have to win their last two matches against Ryhope CW and Annfield Plain to pip Whitehaven for the runners-up place in the Wearside League.

The South Tynesiders dropped two valuable points when held to a 1-1 draw by neighbours Boldon CA at Perth Green last night. Regular marksman David Hopper gave the visitors a 52nd-minute lead but Craig Armstrong struck Jarrow’s equaliser with 12 minutes remaining.

Jarrow remain third, two points adrift of Whitehaven who are favourites to win their final match with wooden spoon side Silksworth Community.

After conceding the lead to Glyn Edwards, Wolviston romped to a 5-1 success over 10-man Cleator Moor Celtic. Craig Brown rifled a hat-trick with Ross Foreman and Lee Butterworth also on target.

Billingham Town won the Arngrove Northern League Cup for the first time with a 2-1 victory over Shildon at Seaham Red Star. The Teessiders made a dream start when Steve Huggins converted a first-minute penalty, awarded after Stuart Banks had been brought down.

Banks made it two on 20 minutes and there was only a minute left on the clock as Wayne Gredziak replied for Shildon.
