IN a low-key affair, both sides had one eye on their respective promotion play off semi final ties – but it was Gateshead who completed their league campaign with their biggest league victory of the season.

Jamie Harwood scored on 22 minutes with a right-foot drive and a minute before half time, Paul Brayson made it 2-0, heading home a Craig Baxter cross.

Within a minute of the restart, David Southern side-footed home the third after being played in by Steve Bowey. Brayson got his second and Gateshead’s fourth with a tap-in after good work by Southern and substitute Graeme Armstrong. Southern completed the scoring seven minutes from time, firing home from 25 yards with a left foot shot that went under ‘keeper Tom Ryder.

Gateshead entertain Eastwood Town in a promotion play off semi final at the International Stadium tomorrow at 7.45pm.
