NEWCASTLE United’s four-game winning run in the FA Tesco National League northern division ended with a 3-1 defeat at home to leaders Nottingham Forest.

Sunderland scored two in the opening half hour on their way to a 3-2 win at Sheffield Wednesday.

Natalie Gutteridge scored twice in seven minutes before Bett Gingell pulled a goal back for The Owls. Gingell equalised 11 minutes into the second half before Ashley Holmes struck Sunderland’s winner midway through the second half.

Middlesbrough moved to fourth in the Northern Combination after a 2-0 win over Salford but West Auckland were without a game due to a waterlogged pitch.

Joanne Dixon converted Laura Jobson’s through ball in the second half to give Blyth Spartans a 1-0 win over Guiseley in the North East Regional League.

Team Northumbria lost 5-2 at home to Stokesley while York City lost 6-1 at Yorkshire rivals Barnsley.
