THERE’LL be a new name on the Northumberland FA Senior Bowl after Blyth Town and Wark reached this season’s final.
In their semi-final Blyth Town beat hosts Berwick United 3-0 despite having keeper Scott Earle carried off with a head injury. Blyth were gifted an own goal opener by home defender Paul Richardson and their later scorers were Danny Beresford and Chris Lisle.
At Scots Gap, Wark clinched a 5-4 victory to beat Wallington. Stu Foreman and Jack Palmer bagged two each for the hosts but Wark edged it with goals by Peter Robinson (2), Lee Telfer (2) and Phil Robinson.
Premier Division leaders Walker Central were idle for the third successive Saturday but second-placed Heddon were beaten for the first time this term at Bullocksteads. Their home record went in a 4-1 defeat by Peterlee Town. The Newtowners, now fourth, completed a league double with goals by Paul Callan (2), Nathan Liddle and Derek Bradley. Craig Horsfall scored a late consolation goal for the losers.
Gillford Park are five points behind Heddon with four games in hand after their 3-2 home win against Ponteland United. Pont seemed on course to avenge an earlier 2-0 league defeat by the Cumbrians when Kevin McGorie scored two. But Darren Addison opened Park’s account, Mike Riding levelled and Steve Skinner scored their winner.
Seaton Delaval avenged a 4-3 defeat by Shankhouse winning 1-0 at Northburn where Steve Bourne scored. And Heaton Stannington’s unbeaten home record stayed intact after their 1-1 draw with visitors Cramlington Town.
Adam Donaghy gave Heaton the lead but Kieran Parsons salvaged a point.
Northbank and Newcastle University are on 10 points each at the foot of the table. The Students swapped places with their rivals with a 3-1 win against them.
