ANOTHER shooting master-class by the red-hot Joe Chapman was the highlight for Newcastle Eagles as they punched their ticket for their second major final of the season with ease at Sport Central last night.
Already holding a commanding 32-point advantage from the first leg of their BBL Trophy semi-final, Fab Flournoy (pictured below) and his players completed the formalities early against Sheffield Sharks as they romped their way to a comfortable 104-84 success.
A combination of Chapman’s deadly shooting and key absences for the visitors – including player-coach Atiba Lyons and Great Britain guard Nate Reinking – ruled out any notion of a miracle comeback by the visitors from ever materialising.
On fire and almost unstoppable in a mesmerising first half, Chapman shot the lights out from three-point range and that laid the foundation for the win with the guard eventually finishing with 31 points.
Indeed, you would be hard pushed to find a more spectacular series of performances this season than those posted by Chapman of late.
Although team-mate Charles Smith – who won the BBL Player of The Month award for January – might beg to differ.
While on the subject of personal accolades, Chapman could yet find himself making history this week by becoming the first player in the league to make the prestigious BBL Team Of The Week four weeks in a row which would further underline his rich vein of form.
Not that this was all about Chapman, of course, since Flournoy’s team has an incredible work ethic and the kind of unity and chemistry which has always served the club well during their most productive seasons.
