Fab Flournoy puts Newcastle Eagles players through video sessions

Fab Flournoy in action for Newcastle Eagles

TOUGH taskmaster Fab Flournoy has given his Newcastle Eagles recruits an early taste of things to come – by inflicting one of his notoriously painstaking video analysis sessions on them after a winning opening weekend.

Despite back-to-back Trophy victories, the Eagles’ head coach made his team sit through two hours of analysis of the weekend games on Tuesday afternoon – even though he reckons they only played badly for four minutes over the two matches.

It is typical of Flournoy’s perfectionist philosophy and, despite some “raised eyebrows” among the new arrivals, he has warned them to expect more of the same as the campaign continues.

Flournoy admitted: “It was an early indication of the standards here.

“We were actually due to do a 20-minute video session on Tuesday before practice, but I ended up cancelling practice and spending two hours on the DVDs.

“We cancelled the practice and it totally disrupted training. but I thought it was worth it.

“We went through every play and analysed and micro-analysed the mistakes I thought we made because I want us to cover every base in these early weeks.

“To be honest there were a few raised eyebrows among the newer guys.

“I think they were probably thinking ‘If this is what happens after a win, what happens if we lose?’

“That is what the Eagles are all about. We are about striving to be perfect and that was the aim of it.

“We watched the video and broke it into defence and offence and they know there were certain things we need to improve on.
