New Year tips off with a Fab win for Eagles

NEWCASTLE Eagles started the new year and new decade in Fabulous style with an astonishing demolition of the hometown Sharks in Sheffield last night.
This was a game won as much off the court as on it as head coach Fab Flournoy and his players’ dedication to their sport and club came shining through.
The Eagles players did celebrate Christmas, with some of them even going home to America.
However, all of them returned early to prepare for yesterday’s British Basketball League Championship clash.
Five solid days of practice, including a New Year’s Day stint, paid dividends – as seldom has a team looked as ready to play as Newcastle did here.
The mercurial Trey Moore weighed in with 37 points, 11 assists and nine rebounds – just missing out on a notable triple-double by a single rebound.
Charles Smith notched 26 points, producing an incredible seven of nine triples from deep and matching his previous effort against Sharks at a venue he enjoys.
Joe Chapman hit 15 points, but his effort on lockdown defence led the side in making Sharks’ normally deadly shooters look decidedly ordinary.
However, as much credit as the Eagles big three points plunderers deserve, the rest of the team need to take a bow for their sterling work too.
