(Tigers win 204-182 on aggregate)

NEWCASTLE Eagles last night failed to live up to their Mersey mission in the second leg of their BBL Cup semi-final, suffering a mauling by the Tigers at the Echo Arena.

Fab Flournoy’s men had taken a slender seven-point lead to the North West after a narrow victory at Sport Central last Friday.

A fairly even first half last night saw the Eagles well placed to secure a spot in the final.

However their hosts had other ideas, putting in a second-half blitz to blow their visitors away.

Tigers’ Nate Reinking was the chief architect of the Eagles’ downfall, scoring points from all over the court as the hosts firmly took control of the match with an 11-2 run after the half-time interval.

As the Tigers grew in confidence, so the Eagles’ spirit ebbed away against a Mersey tide

The final session saw the Tigers pull away with a 36-23 fourth-period success, plus three Eagles (Trey Moore, Kadiri Richard and Darius Defoe) fouling out.

TIGERS: Nate Reinking 39, Andrew Sullivan 30, ANdrew Thompson 16.

EAGLES: Charles Smith 25, Kadiri Richard 16, Darius Defoe 13.
