Guildford Heat 96, Newcastle Eagles 100

The third quarter was a fiery affair. Guilford twice closed to within five points but a double technical foul right at the end of the period gave Moore four free throws. He sank them all to put Eagles 79- 70 up with 10 minutes to play. In that final period, it came down to one man. Moore sank eight out of eight from the line to see his side home despite Guilford closing to within three on two occasions. Eagles now look forward to the visit of Cheshire Jets on Friday at the Metro Radio Arena in the BBL quarter-final play-off.

:: TEAM Northumbria followed in the footsteps of parent franchise Newcastle Eagles yesterday by bringing home silverware to the North East.

Eagles stars Jamie Glen and Will Spragg played key roles in securing a stunning 84-64 win against Leeds Carnegie to lift the EBL Division Two Play-off crown.

TN playcaller Greg Modzelewski – a former Newcastle favourite – admitted: “It’s great for the sport in the North East. At Team Northumbria, our aim is to become a training base for England and Team GB internationals of the future and to continue to bolster the Eagles’ bench.

“Next year we will boast a 2,600-capacity gym and our relationship with the Eagles already gives us an edge. But winning trophies is the biggest single boost to attracting leading players.”
