THE RVI fundraiser organised by Ed Turnbull with help from members of the BSA website and Andy Copeland proved a great success.
Although only 18 anglers fished, their generosity in raffles, auctions and entrance fees raised £427 and other promises should take the total raised to over £500.
The three top fish came from Seaham Pier from members of the Seaham club. Mark Bresnan took the heaviest, a codling of 3lb 12oz, Adam Smith taking one of 1lb 5oz, and Dean Redden one of 1lb 4oz.
When the sea came away it certainly brought the fish in. Graham Foster, fishing at the Private Beach, took cod of 3lb, 4lb, 7lb, and 11lb, Billy Foster taking three for 8lb.
Colin Todd took seven to 5lb, Graeme Lund six to 5lb 6oz from Roker pier, Dean Turnbull taking five cod from South Shields Cliffs. Darren Browne fished Bill Quay, keeping four cod to 4.4lb, returning quite a few codling.
Whiting are now moving north. Gary Kislingbury fished Cresswell Beach, taking and returning 30 whiting on light tackle.
Lyemouth Beach has also produced, Sean Hildrew and Chris Walton both taking codling to over 4lb. Match anglers are also doing well. Gary Appleton took the best bag of 9lb 9oz from the Kings Arms in the Northumberland sea league. Steve Alexander took the heaviest – a cod of 4lb 15oz.
Mick Clark won Whitley Bay’s match with three fish taken at Hartley for 8lb 14oz, the best a codling of 5lb 6oz. John Lee fished at Dunstanburgh, taking a nice cod of 6lb 6oz to win Amble’s match. Jim Dobie took a cod of 4lb 15oz from the Walkway and Dennis Halliday one of 4lb 4¼oz from Seaham in Eastenders’ match.
The Tyne estuary is giving mixed bags of codling, coalfish, flounder, and dab, Paul Batty taking a bag of 11lb 5oz in Longbenton’s match, Phil Coates a bag of 7lb 6oz to win South Shields match, while Mick Dellin fished the upper Tyne to win Alberta SAC’s match with 17 fish for 9lb 5oz.
The Wear is also producing. Gary Dunn fished the Rat House Corner to win Ryhope’s match with 30 whiting for 4415cm.
John Robinson fished Roker pier to win Sunderland’s match with 17 whiting for 10lb 2oz, Trevor Green taking ten to win Cleadon’s match with 6lb 7oz, Ken Collins taking the heaviest fish a cod of 4lb 13oz from South Shields pier.
Micky Quayle took a dozen flounder to 1lb 8oz, all returned, during a pleasure session to runny down and crab. Boats are still taking quite a few fish – JFK out of the Tyne and Famous out of Hartlepool taking cod, ling, and pollock to 8lb, plus a few mackerel.
