Personal best at Lynemouth best for Ivan Stott

LYNEMOUTH Beach was again the place to be. Ivan Stott had a personal best bag of 25lb, his best fish 5lb 6oz & 5lb 7oz.
Richard Noble had a four-cod bag of 16lb with the biggest a personal best cod of 9lb 2oz.
Foxton has also produced a few good fish, Ally Robinson taking one of 11lb. Robert Hall took one of 6lb. Blyth pier has fished over high water, Paul Wright taking a bag of eight codling and a whiting to win a Tynemouth AC match with 14lb 5oz, Dave McLauchlin taking five codling for 11lb 2oz from the Rex Prom.
Unfortunately, catches in the Whitley Bay Evening Open failed to reach expectations, Steve Potts doing extremely well to take five codling for a winning weight of 8lb 15oz.
Ken West took second place with the heaviest fish a cod of 8lb 8oz taken from Sharpness. Chris Potts was third with two codling for 6lb 7oz, while Daniel Chapman took fourth with a cod of 6lb 3oz, taken at Whitley Pipe.
Dick Bradley won Newbiggin’s match with three cod for 10lb 11oz, Bill Emery taking the heaviest of 6lb 14oz in a bag of two for 8lb 6oz at Bog Hall.
Billy Foster won their Dave Sands Cup match with three cod for 11lb 8oz from the Stones, Rob Thirlwell taking the heaviest at 7lb 1oz from Cresswell Carrs.
All the top weights in Blyth’s match came from Blyth beach, Peter smith taking three cod, best 6lb 3oz, for 10lb 10oz, Graham Sidney taking four for 8lb 5oz.
Graham Bell, fishing locally, took a nice cod of 6lb 10oz in his winning bag of 9lb 14.5oz in Amble’s match, Dave Hayley winning Tynemouth’s with three cod and a coalfish for 6lb 12oz from Slatey Gut.
I had expected good catches south of the Tyne but they didn’t materialise, Dean Ambler winning Seaham’s Vernon Knapp trophy with eight small fish for 6.07lb.
Gary Pye took first, second and fourth places in Eastender’s SAC match with codling of 2lb 10oz, 1lb 6oz, & 1lb, all coming from Hawthorn Hive.
A special mention must go to ten-year-old Summer Foster who won the junior cup with a flounder of 1lb taken from the Glass Centre.
Willy Rowntree won Eastenders’ sweepstake with a codling of 2lb 8oz from Hill 60, and Kenneth Halliday their open with a codling of 2lb 5oz, at Seaham.
