It has been a quiet week at Chatton where two aerators have kept Chatton Lake mostly ice free despite struggling with the freezing conditions at times.

Anglers who braved the conditions to record good bags included John Cowell from Bedlington who caught 13; Alan Morton from Newcastle and John Short from Norham who each landed nine; Malcolm Proudlock from Catchgate who kept three and returned five; and Robbie Bell from Berwick who caught seven.

Chatton Lake is fully booked on Sunday but Ross Lake and Dunnydeer Lake will be open as normal if free of ice. Anglers should call 01668 215226 to check conditions before setting off. Flies working well this week have been Cat’s Whiskers, Yellow Dancers, Black Bunny Leeches and Buzzers.

Sport at South Linden Trout Fishery, Longhorsley, Northumberland, this past week has reflected the weather report, with trout staying deep and often under ice when temperatures dropped below freezing.

Winner of the fishery’s monthly draw for January was Don Henderson of Ashington. The February winner was Brian Davis of Cramlington.

Each winner will have a free four-hour fishing session during February or March. Fishing hours are 8.30am to 5pm daily.

Fly Tying Classes are being held throughout the winter at South Linden for those interested. Details on www.southlindenfishery.org/

Subject to the weather, South Linden will remain open all winter.

The cold snap has hit fishing throughout the region with Jubilee Lakes and Knitsley Mill reporting little, action due to the low temperatures.
