Barker bags leading catch

LYNEMOUTH Beach has produced some cracking catches, with Harry Barker taking a bag of 25lb, including a cod of 9lb 12oz.
Lee Grey, fishing not far away from Barker, kept six cod, including fish of 6lb 9oz and 6lb 4oz and a nice bass for 23lb.
Bill Murray only managed two casts before it became too rough, but still managed a cod of 9lb.
As the sea lifted, Blyth pier fished really well, Steve Potts taking ten cod to 5lb, and Arthur Smeaton taking seven to 5lb.
Steve Clark had two good sessions. The first gave him four cod for 17lb 8oz and the next seven cod for 20lb, returning quite a few around 2lb.
While still fish-able, Seaham pier gave some good catches. Shaun Jones took seven cod to 5lb. Roker also fished well, Trevor Green taking ten cod for 20.5lb, the best 4lb 8oz.
Paul Gallon has had two trips, his first to Newton producing five cod and his next at Hartley yielding three cod, the best of 8lb 6oz coming from Hartley.
Aaron Dixon only landed one cod during a daylight session at Grants, but it was a nice clean fish of 9lb.
Match anglers have taken some good catches, especially for those fishing piers.
Steve Harper won Tynemouth’s Sunday League match with eight codling, seven whiting and three dab for 25lb 9oz, the best a cod of 4lb 3oz.
Dave Hayley won their retired members match with five codling, three dab and a coalfish for 12lb 14oz, Neil Garner taking the heaviest, a cod of 4lb.
Neil Lindsay won Longbenton’s match with a mixed bag of 10lb 9oz. Dave Wood took the heaviest, a cod of 4lb 6oz. Gary Appleton won Seaton Sluice’s match from Blyth pier with nine cod for 18lb 6oz, Chris Guthrie taking six for 13lb 8oz.
Ronnie Forrest won Bedlington Station’s first match with a cracking bag of eight codling for 21lb 14oz, the best 6lb 15oz taken from Tynemouth Beach.
Steve Surtees won the next with four codling for 7lb 5oz from Blyth beach.
Barrie Wright fished Roker beach to take first, second and fourth in the Eastenders sweepstake with cod of 6lb 8oz, 3lb 6oz and 2lb 15oz.
Chris Hossack won their club match with seven codling for 10lb from the High Ledge.
Catches in the Tyne have dropped on some tides, Gav Hall winning Cleadon’s match with four codling for 6lb 15oz. Pleasure anglers have reported catches of up to a dozen fish.
Newbiggin anglers struggled with the monstrous sea. Billy and Graham Foster, fishing behind the flat rocks, were the only two to catch.
Billy took five for 6-4-8 and Graham with the heaviest fish at 2-1-8. A single cod of 4lb 10oz taken by Craig Middlemist was enough to win Amble’s match.

THE Sunderland Fishing Festival, due to be held this weekend, has been cancelled and re-scheduled for February 4 and 5.
