Big fish take bait for Paul
Jul 23 2010 The Journal
FISHMONGER Paul Corbishley was all smiles after landing a personal best cod of 17lb. While fishing off Sarah JFK, his smile was even bigger when, not long after, another big fish took his bait.
After quite a struggle Paul upped his personal best to a hefty 20lb with a very nice ling.
At the Amble Summer Open plenty of fish were taken. Chris Potts topped the entry with four coalfish, one cod and a wrasse for 11lb 12.75oz, taken at Craster, Rob Allinson taking second place with three almost identical cod for 11lb 0.5oz taken at Craster.
A fine Pollack of 5lb 9.75oz taken by Colin Bell at Newton was the heaviest fish, Pauline Ferry winning the women’s section with a cod of 4lb 5.5oz and Connor Millard taking the junior section with a cod of 1lb 2.75oz. Shore fishing has certainly improved. Keith Bathgate won Whitley Bay’s summer league match at Craster with six cod for 17lb 14oz, ahead of Geoff King with five cod for 15lb 1oz, Steve Williams taking the heaviest, a cod of 5lb 10oz.
Boat anglers are having a great time. As well as Paul’s two fish anglers aboard JFK have taken plenty of fish including a cod of 16lb 8oz for Steve Southern. Alan Jackson, Andrew Kitching, Neil Arnaud and Dave Bruce had a tremendous time out of Hartlepool on private boat Wildcard.
After taking plenty of good cod off the ground, which where all returned, they headed for the wrecks, Arnaud taking cod to 14.4lb, Bruce cod to 18lb, and Kitching two of 16lb.
Dean Redden, fishing out of Sunderland on his boat For Goodness Sake, had cod of 10lb, 13lb 2oz, and 16lb 5oz, as well as cod to 5lb and ling to 7lb.
Norman White and Tony Gray, fishing off the Tyne on White’s Slinky Kate, had 32 cod, White taking the best at 11.5lb. Bert Grey, Keith Brown had an early morning session off the Tyne fishing the ground, taking over 100 cod in the 3-5lb bracket.
The ground also produced for anglers fishing the County house match on Our Unity out of Seahouses, Tony Rutherford taking the best of 7lb 2oz.
There are still plenty of fish in the rivers for match anglers. Tommy Tate won zone one in the Rutherford’s match at the Copthorne with 13 for 327cm.
