Pike anglers wishing to fish the 2010 British Pike Championships will be pleased to learn that two qualifier matches have been arranged on Longtown’s West Pond.
The dates are November 22 and February 28 drawing at 9am with entry costing £ 21 inclusive of pools, day ticket and contribution to Fish Legal. To book ring Chris on 01228 674519.
For several days Environment Agency scientists have been attending a major fish kill on the Pont.
The investigating officers found dead fish from an area above Stamfordham down to Ponteland, approximately 11km of the river.
Although the EA can’t rule anything out at this stage regarding the cause, a restocking plan needs to be discussed as it would appear that over 1,000 dead fish have since been recorded.
A rare opportunity to rent a stretch of the River Wear for five years from January 1, 2010 has came about.
The lease of the water at Witton-le-Wear, which will interest barbel anglers as well as traditional salmon and sea trout fans, is being handled by Gray’s Surveyors of Belmont Business Park, DH! 1TW, who will be pleased to furnish further details upon application.
