Angel is top venue for rudd

Round one of this year’s North East Winter League fished on the Tees at Yarm on Sunday saw Mark Coyne, of Newman Scotts, win with 37lb of bream.

Steve Bell, of Darlington Angling Centre, was second with 30lb 14oz, and Geoff Keech of Yarm AA third with 30lb 2oz, on a day when Browning Quaker took top team honours ahead of Newman Scotts.

Sunday: Open matches are scheduled for The Oaks, Woodlands, Carp Vale and Raker Lake. The Angel also holds a match, while Yarm AA hold their Williams Cup on their stretch of the Tees at Yarm. Sunderland FAC contest their Tony Kidd Honorary Presidents Trophy, while WACAC see The Roy Hebdon Charity match go ahead on Horton Grange. Thornaby contest their Centenary Cup on the Tees at Crof, .Four in One hold a club match with the venue to be confirmed, details from John Armstrong on (0191) 488 6496. LPAA fish another of their Winter League Series in the city centre. CADCAC stage a Crofton winter league match. On Derwent Reservoir, the McMillan charity fundraiser takes place with categories for men, women, juniors and teams. The minimum sponsorship is £50 per adult and £20 per junior. A series of Opens on Killington lake on the M6 in Cumbria will run from this Sunday and every fortnight until further notice. At the moment there are no spaces, but they do become available as it gets colder. Draw 9am in the car park next to the sailing club, fish 10am-4pm. Sailing club bank is used in all the opens.

Monday: The first Tyne and Wear County Angling Action Group meeting will be held at the Environment Agency Offices, Tyneside House, Skinnerburn Road, Newcastle Business Park, Newcastle Upon Tyne, NE4 7AR, from 7-9pm.

Tuesday: The Tyneside Division of the Pike Anglers’ Club hold a meeting at The Highlander, Front St, Winlaton, Blaydon, to which all pike anglers are welcome.

Wednesday: Open matches will take place on both Woodlands and The Angel, while Lakeside Angling club have a business meeting at the Lakeside Inn, Fellgate Estate.

Thursday: A Midweek open takes place on The Oaks at Sessay.

Friday: The Angel hosts an afternoon match.
