Top-rod John lands big haul at Whittle Dene

ALTHOUGH the first spells of cooler weather have brought an autumnal feel to the waterside, excellent sport continues at Whittle Dene with most anglers catching double-figure nets.
Top rod this week was John Hawthorne with 21lb 6oz of roach, perch, dace and gudgeon.
Brian Hutchinson has also had a couple of great days with nets weighing 21lb and 17lb from the in-form Great Southern reservoir.
On the Angel complex Bill Wayne, from Blyth, fished Lookout mixed coarse taking over 145 fish.
On the Tyne, brothers Paul and Andrew Collins recorded double figure nets of chub, dace and gudgeon from the Federation water at Ovingham in midweek with the best chub a 2lb 13oz specimen taken on ledgered lobworm.
Dave Hodgson won Sunday’s Open on The Angel with 72lb 1oz. Saturday’s Open on Bowes was won by Billy Mc Crowley (50lb 12oz) and a catch of 17 chub weighing 52lb 13oz saw Ray King win the Ron Taylor Memorial match on the Tees at Gatenby.
Wednesday heralded the start of piking for many.

The Darlington and County Durham branch holds their monthly meetings on the first Tuesday of each month in the Coxhoe CIU club. The second Tuesday of the month sees the Tyneside Division meet at The Highlander, Front St Winlaton, Blaydon, and this month on the 14th, controversial piker Dennis Moules will be giving a talk entitled 40 Years of Fenland Piking at the meeting. Rob Murray is always at the TAA meeting held on the third Tuesday of the month at the Empire CIU Club on Salters Road Gosforth, while on the last Tuesday South East Northumberland hold their meeting in the Holystone public house.
Wansbeck & Cramlington AC are continuing their improvements to Brenkley Pond and are requesting their members to give up some of their time during this month to help, with. work parties scheduled on October 4-5, 18-19 and 25-26.
Names being taken for a Winter League Series to be held on The Angel which will consist of nine matches based on a points system from five angling sections.

Leazes Park AA fish a Winter Series match on Newcastle’s Leazes Park. Sunday also sees stillwater Opens scheduled on The Oaks, Woodlands,The Angel, Carp Vale and Raker Lakes
TUESDAY The Darlington and County Durham branch of the PAC. holds their monthly get together in the Coxhoe CIU club
WEDNESDAY Lakeside AC have a club meeting at the Lakeside Inn Fellgate.Jarrow.Wednesday brings a midweek Open on Woodlands.
THURSDAY There is another Open on the Oaks at Sessay while Four in One AC hold a monthly club meeting in The Bay Horse in Front Street Whickham from 7.45pm and Ferryhill and District hold their Annual AGM meting in Ferryhill Catholic Club on Dean Road.
