Jubilee re-opens for Bank Holiday

JUBILEE Lakes are now closed until August 29 when the fishery will be open on Saturday, Sunday and the bank holiday Monday.

Anglers planning to travel to the fishery should note that although the online sales site will still be open, the tackle shop will be closed along with the fishery.

Paul Hull did well on a Cat’s Whisker and a Cactus Cluster high in the water while Jonathan Howe caught well on a very small Pearl Cormorant fished fast on a midge tip line.

John Wildon caught well on small black patterns and CdCs on the surface and Ben Race, who caught a large trout t 18lb 1oz, caught all his trout, except for his double which fell to a Pearl Cormorant, on an Olive Zonker fished on an intermediate line.

Glen Gray from Evenwood caught a 15lb 11oz rainbow on a Black Daddy and Stacy Dolden from Skelton landed one of 14lb 13oz on a Nomad.

Both lakes at Sweethope produced excellent bags – several of them into double figures. R Martin and J Know from Ashington, fishing Cat’s Whiskers, had 37 fish and lost more while Russell Ponton, also from Ashington, safely returned nine, all caught on Sedges.

Neil Urwin from Barrasford returned a mixed bag of Rainbows and Browns on Muddlers while D Andrews from Rothbury had 15 on Muddlers, Barry Rose from Blyth also had 15 fish all to Cat’s Whiskers, with Peter Jones catching 11 fish on Bloodworm and Tony Barclay and Frank Toole from Shotley Bridge taking 16 on Kate McLarens.

Knitsley Mill is also fishing well with a rod average of 3.2. Consett angler J Robinson has six, the best at 12lb, D Gill of Whickham had 11, the best at 4lb 8oz and J Halber, also of Whickham, had seven, the best at 3lb 6oz, and safely returned a 1lb 8oz brown trout.

Fishing at South Linden has been mixed. Jeff Hopper caught and released five while Mick Thompson caught six, keeping two, and C Percy also landed six, keeping two.

The bait lake has been fishing well on both maggots and worms with many anglers catching their bags of two and four fish.

Neil Mason of Hexham had the biggest fish of the week at Langley Dam with a superb rainbow of 14lb 4oz. Eric Dobson, with five for 16lb 12oz, had the largest bag.

Witton Castle Lakes are full with cooler water and fishing extremely well. Ken Stott of Cramlington recorded a personal best with an 11lb 8oz blue trout that took him 20 minutes to bring to the net while Ebchester’s Liam Foster had a fine bag of 5lb 8oz, 3lb 8oz and 2lb.
