Guy's first effort hits the mark at Jubilee

DESPITE the weather, anglers enjoyed a good week’s sport at Jubilee Lakes, with various patterns – such as Zonkers, Cat’s Whisker and Bloodworm – taking quality, hard-fighting fish.

Willington angler Jimmy Guy, on his first visit to Jubilee, took a nicely conditioned fish of 15lb 3oz on a White Gladiator; Andy Hudson from South Shields had one of 14lb 10oz on a Pinkie, and Andrew Greener from Annfield brought a trout of 10lb 12oz to the net on an Olive Zonker.

The fishery is working on a website and is temporarily unable to give details of catches or take online bookings. Anyone wanting to check the availability of rods should call (01388) 772611.

The mix of snow, rain and sun played havoc with the Easter break fishing at Sharpley Springs. However, Trevor Wadds from Craster made the most of the conditions by netting fish of 12lb and 10lb 9oz in two visits using a Diawl Bach.

Steven Fish used a variety of methods to bring 21 trout to the net, while Garry Bell fished a Hare’s Ear to good effect to land a 13lb 8oz rainbow.

The weather kept rod numbers low at Lockwood Beck and also reduced the amount of bank to fish. Over five visits this walk Mark Walker, fishing Cat’s Whisker and Buzzer under an indicator and on a floating line from both the bank and boat, brought 109 fish to the net. John McGarrell caught 40 over two visits on Dawson’s Olive and a Buzzer fished under an indicator.

William Leitch had 16 from the dam on Yellow Blob, keeping three for 14lb 8oz, the best at 9lb, Graham Southam caught 29 from the boat jetty, keeping two for 6lb 8oz and lost two estimated at 10lb-plus at the net, and Andrew Bowker managed 15 from the dam.

Wheelchair angler Paul Richardson, fishing Diawl Bachs and small Cat’s Whisker from the Wheelie Boat, brought five to the net from the culvert, father and son A and B Chapman caught 19 on lures, keeping seven for 15lb 8oz, Jason Nunn and Steve Mills caught 18 from the wood side on Olive Fritz, keeping seven for 28lb, the best at 10lb 12oz and David Appleton had 15, safely returning a rainbow of 11lb and a 5lb brown trout.

The Air Flo Classic individual heat will be fished at Lockwood on Saturday and some of the bank will be closed. Late entries will only be accepted before 8.30am, call Gordon on 07973 779527 for details.

At Knitsley Mill 26 anglers were out on Good Friday and caught 103 fish, a road average of 3.9. Top rod of the week was George English, of Stanley, with 13 fish, the best 10 lb 7oz. Denis Elsdon, of Consett, caught 13; Andrew Greener, of Stanley, 13; and Gareth Tinley, of Lanchester, 12.
