Family fun at Kielder Water and Forest Park

Storm Troopers’ Revenge at South Shields Museum and Art Gallery

The Storm Troopers from the 99th Imperial Garrison return to the museum on Saturday to bid farewell to the Space Age: Exploration, Design and Popular Culture exhibition. Family Trails at Dalton Park

FIVE COASTAL WALKS

Roker Park to Whitburn

Park at Sunderland’s Roker Park, complete with model train track. Walk down to the beach and along, past the fishermen’s cottages to Whitburn. There you can buy fresh produce from Latimer’s Deli and finish it off with a ice cream at the cafe. Walk back along the cliff top.

Tynemouth Longsands

Take in the breathtaking view of the Longsands and finish up at the ruins of Tynemouth Priory. Stop for a cuppa along the way at Cafe Crusoe’s in Tynemouth.

Craster to Dunstanburgh Castle

Park at Craster and walk the mile along to the spectacular ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle, run by English Heritage. On the way back stop for kippers at Robson’s smokehouse.

Saltburn-by-the-Sea

Take the world’s oldest water-powered cliff lift down to Saltburn beach to walk along its sandy shore. Explore the North Sea along the Victorian Pier.

Robin Hood’s Bay, Yorkshire

Park at the top of the cliff and walk through the quaint streets of Robin Hoods Bay right down to the Beach.
